Tummy Tuck in Cuyahoga Falls, OH

Many women want to tone, tighten and firm the abdominal muscles after extreme weight loss or pregnancy. Exercise does help to some extent, but it cannot restore sagging skin to its prior elasticity or remove excess skin and adipose tissue. If abdominal fat and loose skin remain after weight loss or separated abdominal muscles result from pregnancy, abdominal surgery is the only practical solution.

Dr. Steven Carp performs tummy tuck procedures at his Green, OH, clinic for patients living in nearby Cuyahoga Falls. Contact Dr. Carp at the Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center to learn more.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

Abdominoplasty often called a tummy tuck, involves removal of excess fat and skin around the abdominals. The procedure creates a flatter and more toned appearance. A tummy tuck can also be used to join or support weakened, separated muscles. The treatment does what no amount of exercise can do.

Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic procedures among male and female patients who have lost a great deal of weight and want to remove loose or sagging skin.

Some patients need to remove sagging skin to improve health. Pockets of skin, such as a panniculus in the aftermath of weight loss, trap moisture and may result in bacterial or fungal skin infections. The tummy tuck procedure can also be simultaneously performed with other surgical procedures, including hernia operations.

Other patients want to reduce the appearance of a larger than flattering stomach area. Research performed in Switzerland shows that bariatric patients receiving tummy tucks after weight loss are much more likely to maintain their new weight. Additional benefits of a tummy tuck include:

  • Improved appearance and self-confidence
  • A tighter, firmer abdominal area
  • Better posture and reduced stress on the back

How is a Tummy Tuck Performed?

Tummy tucks are performed in Dr. Carp’s office at the Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center in Green, OH. The procedure can be performed in tandem with other cosmetic surgeries using general anesthesia. Patients desiring multiple procedures should plan on an overnight hospital stay.

Many individual tummy tuck procedures can be performed using local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

After anesthesia is administered, Dr. Carp creates a horizontal incision below the navel between the navel and pubic area. The skin is lifted so that the patient’s abdominal muscles are accessible. Then Dr. Carp performs all necessary steps and repairs.

The skin is pulled tightly from the upper abdomen, trimmed and sutured together. The naval must be repositioned, so Dr. Carp performs this essential step next. The outer skin is closed. Gauze and bandages are applied to cover the patient’s wounds.
