Voluma™ in Akron, OH

Facial volume is often lost as a person ages due to lower amounts of hyaluronic acid in the body. Voluma™ is one treatment that increases the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin, providing a fuller, more youthful appearance. Scheduling a Voluma™ injection is easy for patients in Akron or Canton, Cleveland by contacting Dr. Steven Carp of Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center in Green and Beachwood, OH.

What Is Voluma™?

Voluma™ is the first FDA-approved injectable gel designed to correct volume loss in the mid-face and cheeks. This filler is produced from a modified version of a complex sugar (also referred to as hyaluronic acid), which is naturally found within the body. Injecting Voluma™ into the face gently restores volume and lifts the skin to reverse the effects of the aging process.

How Is Voluma™ Used?

Voluma™ restores volume to areas of the face such as the cheeks and jawline. Recommended for patients who are at least 21 years old, the treatment corrects the damage caused by aging. The Voluma™ treatments are injected into cheekbones, creating a natural, youthful look. Small needles and blunt micro-cannulas are used to minimize bruising and discomfort.

What Makes Voluma™ Different from Other Dermal Fillers?

Voluma™ is a gel filler that was developed to add fullness to areas of the face that have lost volume due to aging. Voluma™ employs a technology called Vycross™. Vycross™ is a lighter-weight formula that allows the solution to pass through the skin and reshape the contours of the face easily. The formula allows for the lifting and firming unique to Voluma™.

Why Use Voluma™ Instead of a Wrinkle Filler?

When most people think of cosmetic fillers, they often think of wrinkle treatments. While these types of fillers provide excellent results, they are not as good as Voluma™. Voluma™ is unique in its ability to lift the skin in and around the injection site. Using Voluma™ reduces the need to fill the wrinkles and fine lines in surrounding areas of the treatment. Because Voluma™ is so effective, patients may save money by reducing the number of treatments they need.

How Old Do You Need to Be to Get Treated?

The FDA has approved Voluma™ for use in patients who are at least 21 years of age. Voluma™ effectively creates a softer look in people showing early signs of aging.

Will Results Vary Depending on the Age of the Patient?

Yes. People of any age will benefit from the treatments. However, younger patients with laxity in their skin and lost volume in their cheeks will likely see more dramatic results. Aging causes natural changes to the body. The changes are enhanced in individuals who smoke, have sun-damaged skin, or lose a significant amount of weight. When these factors are taken into consideration, more filler may be required to produce maximum results. Patients who have had previous filler treatments may be more impressed with the appearance and lasting effects of Voluma®.

Does Voluma™ Work on All Skin Types?

Voluma™ works on any skin type. Darker skin tones tend to have fewer wrinkles than lighter ones. However, everybody acquires wrinkles at some point in time. People with darker skin tones may notice premature sagging at the cheeks’ apex. The apex of the cheeks helps the face look young. Voluma™ restores the cheeks, giving patients a refreshed and youthful appearance.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

The amount of time the procedure takes depends on the nature of the treatment, the amount of Voluma™ used, and the degree of detail involved with the procedure. Procedures that are not as complex take around 15 to 20 minutes. More complex procedures will take much longer.

What Are Micro-Cannulas and How Do They Work?

Micro-cannulas are long, flexible devices that resemble needles. The tips are blunt, and there is a hole on the side that contains the filler. Cannulas are unable to penetrate the skin on their own. To place the cannula, the doctor inserts and then removes needles from the skin. This technique requires fewer injections and reduces the amount of bruising, pain, and discomfort the patient experiences.

Can You Combine Voluma™ with Other Facial Anti-Aging Treatments?

Yes. Voluma™ is suitable for use with other types of anti-aging treatments. Voluma™ lifts sagging skin and restores the face’s volume. Skin damaged severely from sun exposure or thin due to collagen loss may also benefit from fractional laser (IPL®) treatments. Anyone with noticeable spider veins on their face may want to consider a blood vessel laser treatment. Having an expressive face can lead to the creation of lines. Botox® is able to treat these lines. Combining Botox® with Voluma™ will help to enhance the results of the treatments. Botox® or Juvederm® can also help to lift any sagging that takes place around the eyes.

Can Men Be Treated?

Voluma™ works for men also. However, the technique used may be different from the one used on women.

When Can I Return to Work and Resume My Social Life?

Most patients see natural looking results immediately after the procedure. Because the procedures are non-invasive, it is possible to resume regular activities immediately after the treatment.

How Often Can I Be Injected?

Because Voluma™ is a long-lasting filler, you do not need to receive another treatment for at least two years. However, if you decide that you want more volume within the weeks following your initial treatment, you can have a touch-up. It is important to not over-inject the cheeks or lips. The goal is to have a natural appearance. Voluma™ treatments do not require as much filler as other types of hyaluronic acid fillers.

What is the Cost of Voluma™?

The cost of Voluma™ depends on the nature of the treatment. Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center accepts several forms of payment that include credit cards, checks, and cash. There are also financing options available.
