Liposuction May Reduce Your Blood Pressure Level

Liposuction is one of the most common surgical cosmetic procedures in the U.S. In fact, approximately 246,000 people underwent liposuction surgery in 2017, marking a five percent increase from 2016.

Many patients consider liposuction as a means to eliminate subcutaneous fat. However, studies have also linked the procedure to removing a type of fat in the blood called triglyceride, which is known to increase the risk of high blood pressure.

Health Risks Associated with Having High Blood Pressure

High levels of triglyceride can cause a hardening of the arteries or thickening of the artery walls, known as arteriosclerosis. This may increase your risk of developing several adverse medical conditions, including high blood pressure.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, develops when the blood pumping from the heart exerts strenuous levels of force against the veins. High blood pressure forms over several years and can cause significant damage to your body. This may result in several types of adverse health effects, including damaged and narrowed arteries, stroke, coronary heart disease, aneurysm and heart failure.

Typically, the recommended methods to reduce high blood pressure includes regular exercise and healthy dieting. However, several studies have found that liposuction may help patients with hypertension reduce their blood pressure by eliminating a fat called triglyceride.

How Does Liposuction Lower Blood Pressure?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that breaks up fat and removes stubborn fat below the skin. Typically, a cosmetic surgeon will perform the procedure on your waist, thighs, arms, buttocks and face. This is mainly intended as a sculptural procedure rather than a quick way to lose weight.

In 2010, a study presented by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) linked liposuction to reducing patients’ levels of triglyceride. Researchers conducting the study monitored changes in blood levels in more than 300 patients. In patients with triglyceride levels above 150 mg/dL, researchers found that there was a 43 percent reduction in triglyceride levels after receiving liposuction.

Are There Risks Involved for Patients with High Blood Pressure?

Patients considering liposuction, and other cosmetic procedures should be in good health when undergoing surgery. If you have high blood pressure and are considering liposuction, be sure to consult with your primary care physician about the procedure.

Liposuction vs. Fat Freezing (CoolSculpting®) in Green, OH

Liposuction has long been hailed as the top body contouring procedure available. Recently, a new non-invasive treatment called CoolSculpting® has taken the body contouring scene by storm. CoolSculpting® freezes fat to produce body sculpting results without any surgery or downtime. Is this new treatment as good as it sounds? Does liposuction still have a place in modern body contouring treatments? Let’s compare these two fat reduction techniques to find out.

The Procedure

You may be familiar with the liposuction procedure: using a small metal tube, called a cannula, fat is vacuumed out of the body to enhance the figure. This is a surgical procedure that is performed with the aid of anesthesia, ensuring patient comfort. CoolSculpting® is a little different, using a unique cooling device to freeze fat cells from the surface of the skin. During treatment, patients wear the CoolSculpting® applicator on the treatment area. The device delivers cooling energy to the desired areas of fat for the duration of the 30 to 60-minute treatment session. During this time, patients may feel a cold sensation in the treatment area, but are able to relax and even read a book or use their cell phone.

The Results

Liposuction produces instant results, as fat is removed from the body during treatment. CoolSculpting® destroys fat cells during treatment, but it can take a few weeks for the destroyed cells to be completely eliminated from the body. For that reason, it can take up to a month or longer to notice the full results from treatment. Multiple treatments are often needed to achieve the desired results with CoolSculpting®, while only one liposuction treatment is necessary.

The Recovery

CoolSculpting® is non-invasive, so there is no downtime after the procedure. Patients are able to return to work and other activities immediately after their appointment. Liposuction, on the other hand, may require patients to take time away from work and other usual activities. Recovery can vary depending on the extent of treatment, but for most patients, the initial recovery period only lasts a week or two.

Which Treatment is Right for Me?

Both liposuction and CoolSculpting® are effective fat reduction techniques, so the treatment that is best for you may depend on your treatment goals or personal preference. If you are considering either of these treatments, contact us to schedule a consultation at Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center. We welcome patients from Green, Beachwood and Akron, OH.

Liposuction, CoolSculpting®, Tummy Tuck: Which Procedure is Right for You?

When it comes to addressing stubborn fat in the stomach, there are many body contouring options available. The right procedure for you will depend on many factors, including your desired results and the types of treatment techniques you are comfortable with. Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center is proud to offer these and other treatments to residents of Green, Beachwood, Akron and the nearby areas of Ohio.

For Patients Who Would Like to Avoid Surgery

Surgery can be intimidating, so many patients would like to avoid this while still achieving body-contouring results. Fortunately, CoolSculpting® offers a completely non-surgical and non-invasive body contouring treatment by freezing and destroying fat cells from the skin’s surface. Multiple treatments are often necessary, but this technique provides fat reduction benefits without the scarring, downtime and recovery associated with other treatments.

For Patients Who Want Dramatic Improvements

A tummy tuck provides some of the most impressive body contouring results, creating a toned, firm abdomen. This is a great procedure for patients who are trying to achieve significant improvements in their figure. However, it requires more extensive surgery. Tummy tuck procedures remove fat, eliminate excess skin, and tighten the abdominal muscles to produce results.

For Patients Somewhere In Between

If you are comfortable with surgery but do not need the full tummy tuck procedure, then liposuction may be the best option for you. Liposuction is a versatile technique that can remove fat from nearly anywhere on the body. The benefit of using it for the abdominal area is that it can be used in multiple spots to sculpt the body while minimizing the size and visibility of scarring. Liposuction can also produce impressive body contouring results, but unlike a tummy tuck, it does not eliminate excess skin.

Where Can I Learn More About These Treatments?

If you are considering any of these body contouring treatments, contact us today to schedule a consultation. We can help you determine the procedure that is best for you in order to help you achieve optimal results.

Plastic Surgery vs. Exercise

Exercise has its indisputable evidence of working to accelerate fat reduction and provide a number of other health benefits. But, while every plastic surgeon would suggest a lifestyle which incorporates exercise, there are some benefits to plastic surgery procedures that exercise alone may not offer. And, for those who do actively engage in a healthy lifestyle, plastic surgery may be the only way to achieve desired results.

Getting Rid of the Stubborn Fat Deposits

Even those who routinely exercise may find themselves with stubborn fat deposits. And, maintaining a healthy lifestyle of constant exercising can seem pointless when dream results are never accomplished. When no number of sit-ups or meal plans can rid an individual of unwanted belly, thigh, arm, or other area affected by excess fat deposits, plastic surgery can help.

Working to Tighten Loosened Skin

When a person does establish a lifestyle which incorporates exercise and does lose weight, he or she may be ashamed to show off new results because of loosened skin. While exercise does work to eliminate fat cells, it doesn’t reduce the amount of skin the body has to accommodate excess fat cells. So, plastic surgery works to provide tighter, firmer skin in the treated areas.

Helping to Adjust Body Shape

Even with exercising and losing weight, a person may still remain a specific body shape. And, it can be discouraging to continue with a healthy lifestyle if a person isn’t happy with their own curves. So, liposuction procedures can be used to proportion the body in a way that complements an individual’s figure.

While plastic surgery and exercise compare differently, they offer their best results when used together. In fact, liposuction works best for those who have already established healthy lifestyles of exercise and diet. After all, even those who have been exercising all their lives may find something plastic surgery can help to achieve.

It’s important to know that the difference between the two practices; exercise is a lifestyle and plastic surgery is a tool. When the advantages of exercise do not match expectations, plastic surgery is a beneficial tool which can be utilized to boost results. If you’re ready to boost the effects of your exercise, contact us to schedule a consultation with Dr. Carp today. Liposuction Technique Variations

Looking for a way to appear more toned and reduce the impression of fat around certain areas of the body? Liposuction is a great way to achieve the reduction of fat cells and has been for many years. Choosing the liposuction technique that’s right for you can make all the difference when it comes to getting the results you want.

How Liposuction Procedures Share Likeness

While all liposuction techniques are not the same, they do share some likeness. Basically, the difference in techniques is how the fat is identified and liquefied so that it can be removed from the body. However, the way fat cells are removed remains the same in each technique—suction. In all liposuction procedures, a small incision is made to insert surgical instruments that work to sweep the affected area and suck away the liquefied fat cells.

Types of Liposuction Techniques Used at our Practice

Here at Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center, we strive to provide for our patients the best results possible. In order to do that we utilize different techniques for liposuction. These techniques include:

  • Tumescent Liposuction: The word “tumescent” describes fat cells in their hard, natural state before removal can be done. In this most commonly used liposuction technique, fat cells are liquefied using an injection which contains a mixture of fluids. This mixture consists of a blood vessel contractor, local anesthetic, and saline solution. Together, this solution works to numb the affected area to reduce pain, reduce the loss of blood, and help make removing the fat cells quicker and easier.
  • Super-Wet Liposuction: Basically, this is the same technique as the tumescent liposuction, but it involves using less of the liquefying injection solution. While the tumescent liposuction procedures may last up to 5 hours, this type will usually take much less time to complete. Super wet liposuction is usually suggested for patients who want less severe results.
  • Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty: During this type of liposuction procedure, instead of injection, ultrasound is used to liquefy fat cells for removal. Additionally, instead of using only the local anesthetic found in the injection mixture, this technique requires further sedation of the patient. Typically, this type of technique is used for more stubborn areas, which may contain fat cells like the upper back or the male chest.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

It has been said time and time again that motherhood is the toughest job out there. As a mother, you dedicate your life to ensure your children grow up in a safe, healthy, and happy home. Of course, taking care of your family is greatly rewarding but does not come without consequences. The stress and pressures that come with motherhood can be emotionally and physically draining. If this sounds like you, know that you are not alone. And as far as the physical detriments of motherhood, know that there are plenty of options for you to get your pre-motherhood body back. There is a new trend called “Mommy Makeovers”, which is a plastic surgery plan designed for mothers who feel the same way you do. You may be wondering exactly what a “Mommy Makeover” entails – we are here to answer any questions you may have.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover may be different for everyone. After a consultation at Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center, you will be able to better understand which procedures will be best suited for your body. Essentially, a mommy makeover is designed to address changes in your body that come with pregnancy. This may include: liposuction, tummy tuck, breast augmentation, and/or breast reduction.

Liposuction

The more common areas that fat deposits collect during pregnancy are thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and hip area. No matter how much you might work out or diet, it is still challenging and sometimes even impossible to get back to your pre-baby weight. Liposuction removes those fatty pockets.

Tummy Tuck

Also known as abdominoplasty, this procedure moves the excess skin that has stretched out as a result of pregnancy. The abdominal muscles can also be tightened at this time to reduce the lower abdomen bulge.

Breast Augmentation

Your breasts gain volume as your belly grows, and then they are responsible for feeding the baby over the next several months. The extra weight makes them sag and as they slowly lose the extra volume, they start to resemble deflated balloons. Breast augmentation adds volume and lifts the breasts using saline or silicone implants. In some cases, it is necessary to perform a breast lift if the sagging is severe.

You take care of everyone else, so now it is time to take care of yourself. You owe it to yourself to no longer feel uncomfortable or self-conscious with your body. Call Dr. Carp and his team at 330-577-8959 to begin your mommy makeover journey.

Liposuction – what are the risks and rewards?

Did you know that liposuction is the single most common cosmetic procedure in America and the United Kingdom? In fact, more than 300,000 procedures are carried out in the United States each year. Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction, lipectomy, or just lipo, is a type of cosmetic surgery that breaks up and then “sucks” fat from the body. Liposuction’s popularity is due in no small measure to the fact that liposuction has such a well-deserved reputation for safety and efficacy. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any risks involved, and it is important to be aware of both the risks and the rewards of liposuction.

Liposuction removes fat cells, altering the shape of your body. But that doesn’t mean that liposuction is a “fix it and forget it” type of solution to body contouring. If one does not lead a healthy lifestyle after their liposuction procedure, there is a risk that the remaining fat cells will grow bigger.

For body sculpting purposes, liposuction is used on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves, and back. During liposuction, the fat is removed through a hollow instrument – a cannula – which is inserted under the skin. A powerful, high-pressure vacuum is applied to the cannula, pulling out the fat.

The operation is normally carried out under general anesthetic, and there is always a risk with any type of surgery. There are a number of associated risks with any form of surgery, including infection and scarring. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, dimples, or stretch marks. The aim is aesthetic – it is for the patient who wishes to change and enhance the contour of their body. Liposuction is also not a treatment for obesity, and Dr. Carp reminds his patients that it is very important to keep in mind that liposuction is not a weight-loss tool, it is purely cosmetic, and its effects are subtle, expertly designed to enhance your shape.

Having said all that, liposuction is capable of achieving stunning results, particularly when done by a surgeon with the level of skill and expertise such as is exemplified by Dr. Carp, who achieves natural-looking harmonious results with optimal outcomes from a health and wellness perspective as well. Even the best non-invasive body sculpting techniques pale in their effectiveness when it comes to genuinely sculpting your silhouette anew with liposuction from Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center.

Take the time today to schedule your liposuction consultation with Dr. Carp, and together you can develop a customized liposuction treatment plan designed to help you achieve and attain your body sculpting goals!
