Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure for improving the shape and size of the breasts. It may also be used as a reconstructive technique after breast surgery. Breast augmentation is among the most common procedures that Dr. Carp performs. Benefits of breast augmentation include increased confidence, a more proportional appearance, and improved self-esteem. Dr. Carp uses a gentle, virtually bloodless technique that minimizes tissue trauma and allows for shorter recovery times. Most patients can resume light activity within one to two days and regular activity within three weeks.
Dr. Carp will listen to your desires and help you select the implant that's right for you. Once you're ready for your surgery, you will be put under general anesthesia. An incision is made below the breast, in the armpit, or under the areola's edge. Incisions below the breast are most common and leave less visible scarring. Next, a pocket is formed to accommodate the implant, which may be over or under the chest wall. Under the chest wall (subpectoral) is the most common placement. Finally, the implant is inserted and situated, and the incisions are sutured.
