Buttock Enhancement with Liposuction and Fat Transfer
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) reshapes the buttocks using your own fat. During surgery, fat is removed with liposuction from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, back, or thighs, refined, and then strategically transferred to enhance buttock shape and projection. At Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center, we focus on proportion, natural aesthetics, and safety-first planning, serving patients from Uniontown, Beachwood, and the greater Akron/Cleveland region.
What a BBL Can Improve
- More volume and projection
- Improved shape and symmetry
- Enhanced hip-to-waist balance
- A contoured silhouette from liposuction + fat transfer
- A natural look and feel because we use your own fat
- No implant-related complications, such as shifting or rupture
How BBL Surgery Works
Anesthesia And Comfort
We typically perform a BBL under general anesthesia so you sleep comfortably through surgery. For smaller-volume cases, IV sedation with local anesthesia may be appropriate—your options will be reviewed during consultation.
Step 1: Liposuction (Fat Harvesting)
Fat is removed from selected donor areas, commonly including the abdomen, flanks, lower back, or thighs.
Step 2: Fat Processing
The harvested fat is prepared to concentrate healthy fat cells for transfer.
Step 3: Fat Transfer (Buttock Shaping)
Fat is placed in targeted zones to improve upper pole fullness (lifted appearance), central projection, and overall contour and harmony with your frame.
BBL Candidate Criteria
- Prefers enhancement using their own fat (rather than implants)
- Has adequate donor fat (or is open to a staged plan)
- Is near a stable, healthy weight
- Has realistic expectations regarding healing and fat survival
- Wants a result that fits their body and gender expression—for example, a rounder contour for women or a more square, athletic shape for men.
During your consultation, Dr. Carp will evaluate your anatomy, discuss your goals, and determine whether a BBL is appropriate for you.
Results and Longevity
You may see an early change right away, with refinement over time as swelling resolves. Stable long-term results are best supported by maintaining a steady weight and following post-op guidance.
Important: Not all transferred fat survives. Your plan is designed with this in mind to support a balanced outcome.
Recovery After a Brazilian Butt Lift
Recovery after BBL requires attention to positioning, garment use, and activity restrictions.
- Days 1–2: Plan for rest, short walks, and wearing your compression garment as directed. Avoid sitting directly on your buttocks.
- First two weeks: Avoid pressure on the transferred fat, and follow your instructions for sitting and sleeping positions.
- Weeks 3–6: Gradually increase activity, and return to light exercise when you’re cleared.
- Around six to eight weeks: Many patients can resume most normal activities, including sitting more comfortably, based on their surgeon’s guidance.
- Three to six months: Swelling continues to improve, and your results typically look more “final” as the fat stabilizes.
BBL Safety and Our Surgical Planning Philosophy
BBL is technique-sensitive and should be approached thoughtfully. Our position is straightforward: aesthetic outcomes matter, but safety comes first. National safety guidance recommends placing transferred fat only in the subcutaneous space (above the muscle), not into the muscle. Our technique follows these recommendations, and we use careful planning and instrumentation to support safe, precise placement. During your consultation, we review candidacy, anatomy, goals, and risk factors to determine the most appropriate plan for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does a BBL Cost?
Most Brazilian Butt Lift procedures range from $8k to $12k. Your exact cost depends on how much liposuction is needed, the complexity of your goals, anesthesia and facility fees, and whether you combine procedures. Financing options may be available for qualified patients.
How Long Will My BBL Results Last?
Once you’re fully healed, the fat that survives is considered permanent. Many patients retain about 60–80% of the transferred fat, and results can last for years, even a decade or longer, with stable weight and healthy habits.
Does a BBL Include Liposuction?
Yes. We begin by removing fat with liposuction—typically from your abdomen, flanks, lower back, or thighs. That fat is cleaned, then injected to shape and lift your buttocks.
When Will I See My Final Results?
You’ll notice an early change right away, but swelling can mask definition at first. Most patients see their shape settle and look more “final” around three to six months as swelling resolves and the transferred fat stabilizes.
Will I Have Scars?
Yes, but they’re usually minimal. Liposuction and fat-transfer incisions are typically about 2–3 mm and placed discreetly. Scars usually fade over time.
What If I Don’t Have Enough Fat?
If donor fat is limited, we can discuss alternatives or a staged plan depending on your goals and anatomy.
