Cosmetic treatments come and go; however, Botox® is one that has remained popular for a number of years. Lines and wrinkles that do not respond well to other treatments can effectively be diminished after an injection performed by Dr. Steven Carp at his Uniontown and Beachwood, OH clinics. Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center, is pleased to offer Botox® to residents of Canton, Cleveland, Akron, and the surrounding areas.
What Is Botox®?
Botox® is an injectable used for cosmetic purposes. Normally, it’s used to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that form as a natural part of aging. Also called botulinum toxin type A, Botox® is created from a refined bacterium. It works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles of the face, which gives skin a smoother, younger appearance. Botox® has also been used to treat migraines and overactive bladder.
Botox® is often sought by people who are displeased with their appearance due to the natural consequences of aging. Treatment with Botox® can help you look younger and more vital, as well as give you a self-esteem boost.
Benefits of Botox®
Botox® might be a good choice if you want to do the following:
- Temporarily smooth out facial wrinkles
- Achieve a more youthful appearance with softer skin
- Eliminate or prevent wrinkles, such as those on the forehead
- Try an alternative treatment method for controlling migraines
- Decrease the production of underarm sweat

Botox® Injection Process
Sometimes, Botox® is injected after a local anesthetic has been used on the area of intended treatment. However, some patients don’t find the procedure uncomfortable enough to warrant anesthesia. Dr. Carp utilizes a very thin needle to inject Botox® into your facial muscles. The number of injections that are administered depends on the number and severity of wrinkles and fine lines. In most cases, the effects of this in-office treatment last for four to six months. After this period, patients usually come back for additional treatments.
Botox® Consultation
During your Botox® consultation, you will meet with Dr. Carp so he can assess your medical history and address any concerns you might have about the procedure. This is a good time to ask questions and gain a better understanding of how Botox® works.
Preparing for Your Botox® Appointment
It’s important to let Dr. Carp know if you’ve had any other injections over the prior four months. You’ll also need to avoid taking certain medications, such as aspirin and other blood thinners, before your appointment to minimize the risk of excessive bleeding. You should also tell him if you’re using allergy medications, sleep aids, or muscle relaxers before your appointment.
Botox® Recovery and Aftercare
After your Botox® treatment, avoid exercising vigorously or rubbing your face roughly.
You can return to desk work right after your appointment, but wait at least four hours before you lie flat or do heavy exercise. Mild redness or small bumps at the injection sites fade within minutes to a few hours.
You’ll start to notice smoother skin in two to three days. Full results show in about one to two weeks and usually last three to six months. To reduce swelling, place an ice pack on the area for a few minutes at a time, sleep on your back, and avoid rubbing the treated spots.
Most people have no serious side effects. If you notice unusual pain, vision changes, or drooping that doesn’t improve, call our office right away.
Botox® Treatment Cost
Because every face and treatment goal is different, Dr. Carp will give you an exact quote during your consultation. In the Akron and Cleveland areas, Botox® usually runs between $11 and $17 per unit. Common areas such as the forehead or the “11” lines between the brows often use around 20 units, so most patients spend $220–$340 for that single area. Treating the full upper face (forehead, glabellar lines, crow’s feet) may take 30–60 units, or roughly $330–$1,000 depending on how many units you need.
Botox® is considered elective, so insurance typically doesn’t pay for it. To keep treatment affordable, Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center accepts cash, major credit cards, and offers flexible financing. Call us today to request a personalized estimate.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Botox®?
It’s up to you to decide whether Botox® treatment is right for you. If you don’t feel comfortable with your appearance because of wrinkles and fine lines, Botox® treatment may be right for you. It can help you look younger and enjoy greater self-esteem.
How Many Units of Botox® Will I Need?
The exact number depends on your muscle strength, skin condition, and goals. Typical starting ranges are:
- forehead lines: 10–20 units
- “11” lines between the brows: 15–25 units
- crow’s feet: 12–24 units (both eyes)
Dr. Carp will map your facial muscles during your consultation and recommend a dose that gives natural-looking results without freezing your expressions.
When Will I See Results After My Botox® Injection?
You may notice subtle softening in two to three days. Most people see full smoothing by one to two weeks. Results last about three to six months, after which you can schedule a quick touch-up to maintain your look.
Most people have no serious side effects. If you notice unusual pain, vision changes, or drooping that doesn’t improve, call our office right away.
