Revision Breast Augmentation in Akron, OH

The results of an initial breast augmentation may vary over time, as breast tissue changes due to fluctuating hormones, weight loss, and pregnancy. When results are no longer desirable, a breast augmentation revision performed by Dr. Steven Carp of Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center may be needed. This surgery might also be needed if an implant ruptures or otherwise malfunctions. Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center proudly serves patients in the Akron, Cleveland, Canton, Green, and Beachwood, OH, areas.

For patients who have undergone breast augmentation, unfortunately, less than optimal results are possible. Dr. Carp has placed thousands of breast implants and understands that even in the best of worlds, long-term results may be unsatisfactory. Having been in practice for over 15 years, Dr. Carp has operated on many women that have required revisions from breast augmentation. Patients come from all of Ohio and Pennsylvania seeking his expertise in revision breast implant surgery.

Here are some common problems that may occur after breast augmentation:

  • Implant out of position or implant malposition

  • Uniboob or synmastia
  • Rupture or leaking of the implant
  • Sagging, drooping, or ptosis of the breast

  • Palpable implant rippling/wrinkling
  • Infection

Despite having had a breast augmentation, a woman’s breasts can change due to the following:

  • Fluctuations in weight
  • Changes in hormones

After many years, a woman who is dissatisfied with the appearance of her breasts can choose to undergo a breast lift or implant exchange procedure to restore her body’s youthful contours.

What Is a Breast Implant Exchange?

A breast implant exchange is a surgical procedure that replaces or removes breast implants that were previously placed in a woman’s body. A woman may choose to undergo a breast implant exchange for personal or medical reasons. To provide a satisfactory aesthetic appearance, a surgeon may also perform another cosmetic procedure during or after the breast implant removal. The removal of breast implants is often followed by replacing them with a different variety or by performing a breast lift procedure.

Reasons for Breast Implant Exchange

A woman may believe that breast implants are no longer appropriate for her lifestyle or want a different type or size. Breast implant removal is necessary for women who are

  • Switching from saline to silicone implants or
  • Wanting to change the size of their implants.

There are medical reasons for the removal of breast implants, such as disease, trauma, or a surgical complication. Complications from a breast augmentation may require a revision surgery or the removal of breast implants.

What Happens During Revision Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast implant removal is a relatively straightforward procedure. Dr. Carp typically uses the surgical incision areas created during the original breast augmentation. Many procedures last only one hour, depending on the woman’s particular condition.

After Breast Implant Exchange

The removal of a woman’s breast implants can create an undesirable outcome, especially if she had had the devices for several years. When a breast augmentation is first performed, the skin stretches to accommodate the implants. When the implants are removed, it is likely that the skin will not shrink back to its original size.

While it is possible that the breasts will return to their pre-augmentation appearance, most patients will require another cosmetic procedure for this to happen. Dr. Carp recommends a breast lift to remove excess skin and tighten underlying tissue. To meet a patient’s aesthetic goals, Dr. Carp may suggest inserting a different implant type or size.

How Much Does Revision Breast Augmentation Cost?

Revision breast augmentation is considered to be elective, so most insurance providers won’t cover the cost. To help make revision breast augmentation affordable and accessible for everyone, Carp Cosmetic Surgery Center offers financing options. We also accept cash, personal checks, and major credit cards.
